In November 2008, I spent three weeks at a writing retreat in a remote mountain village in the South of France. I quickly fell in love with this village life, where the past and present merged on a medieval mountainside.

Everything changes in the blink of an eye here, where even the old haunts make room for new exploration -- and nothing is ever what it seems.

Dorothy Gale put it best when she said "there's no place like home." Indeed, if home is where the heart is, then my heart is in good ol' Pennsylvania -- from the scenic country roads and farmer's markets to historic downtown with its fine dining and art galleries, it's a small piece of the world that I get to call my own. And, really...how can you not love a town that has its own chocolate factory?

My best friend and I spent a week in London in 2007 as a spur-of-the-moment, belated college graduation present to ourselves. For one short week, we were Londoners at heart, drinking in the city and navigating its corridors. My favorite memory? Spending a sunny afternoon reading and writing in the park.
